Susan Notes: Go the url below and you can hear the songs.
No child left behind says test the kids. . .This CD has 15 original songs designed to bring attention to the devastation caused by test-obsessed schools. Written by teachers, the songs are performed by musicians ranging from 12-year-old Lillie Kryzanek to Thom Chapin. One song writer is an El Paso first grade teacher afraid for her job if her identity becomes known.
Proceeds from this CD go to the World of Opportunity, established in Birmingham in 2000 and continuing to rescue young people pushed out of the local schools. Sustained by the donations and hard work of community residents and activists across the country, the WOO offers a free social justice and civil rights educational program. Exhibiting their "lack of interest," students are earning their GEDs, going to college, obtaining employment, and above all, sharing laughter, where once there was none.
This CD, No Child Left Behind: Bring Back the Joy, invites people across America to join hands and sing out loudly for kindergartners who have lost naptime, second graders who have lost recess, third graders terrified of not advancing to fourth grade, fifth graders who have lost science and social studies to test prep, high schoolers denied a diploma because they flubbed one test.
Sing out loudly against the destructive mandates of the federal government's No Child Left Behind Act.
